TRE Helps Haiti…

Dear TRE Parents~

The sixth grade classes and student council would like to sponsor a school-wide donation drive to help support those who are in need in Haiti. We are seeking to raise money that will transport food and other items such as water, beans, corn, and bleach. We will be working with an organization in Blissfield, MI called H-E-H which stands for Hope and Encouragement for Humanity. It is a nonprofit organization with 100% of the money raised going towards the transportation cost. H-E-H already has the food and supplies in a warehouse ready for shipment. For every $1.00 raised 10 people will be fed. We chose H-E-H because of a parent connection and that it has both the supplies ready to go and the ability to get it delivered directly to Haiti. We also like that H-E-H is non-profit organization located very close to our own community.

The students sponsoring the donation drive have planned a “friendly” competition to see which grade level can raise the most donations with the winning grade earning an extra recess in the spring. In the lobby we will have a bulletin board representing each grade level and the total dollar amount that is raised daily. Our goal as a whole school is to raise at least $1,000 towards the shipment of the food supplies to Haiti. We realize that not all families may be able to participate but any voluntary contributions large or small are most welcome.
We will be collecting money from January 25th – February 5th. Please make checks payable to TRE with
“Helping Haiti” in the memo section.

If there are any questions please contact Mrs. Tillman or Mr. Harris at 734-850-6500.

Thank you,
Mr. Harris, Principal
Mrs. Tillman, 6th Grade Social Studies Teacher

Mr. Elarton, TRE parent, is pictured with 6th grade students after he presented a program on Haiti and the non-profit organization H-E-H. Students learned about Haiti and also were able to see what food and supplies would be delivered through our donations from school.

Monroe Bank and Trust School Banking Program at TRE

Two Tuesdays a month our student banking officers open up the teller window of our Monroe Bank and Trust Bank here at TRE. This program allows students to open and deposit money to their own savings account through our local bank. Student bank officers were selected through an interview process at the beginning of the year and then were trained by our bank partners at Monroe Bank and Trust. We currently have over 100 students actively participating in the program. Mrs. Spackey (parent volunteer) sponsors and oversees our banking program. A great big "thank you" goes out to her for all the work she does with this very important activity.

This picture was taken today as our banking officers worked in their roles as bank employees.

TRE Adopts School Board Member Mr. Dale Barton as Honorary Temperance Road Tiger

The National School Boards Association (NSBA) initiated National School Board Recognition Month in 1995 when its Delegate Assembly adopted a resolution for school board recognition month. States followed suit by dedicating a time of the year to recognize the contributions of local board members. In Bedford, we recognize our board members during the month of January for their outstanding service to our community and school system. Each school “adopts” a school board member for the month and that school board member is officially recognized by each school during the January board meeting and then that particular board member visits and participates in school activities at their adopted school. Mr. Dale Barton is our adopted school board member and today he made a special visit to our school to spend time with both students and staff. Mr. Barton spent time with our staff at our staff breakfast, did a Q/A time with all of our student council members, and visited classrooms throughout the school. We had a great time with Mr. Barton and appreciate all he does for our school district. We would not have outstanding schools without the dedicated service of our board members!

Mr. Barton speaks to TRE student council members and tells a little about himself and his responsibilities as a Bedford School Board member.

Pictures: Band and Strings Students Provide Holiday Music in our Hallways

The holiday season wouldn't be complete without the TRE band and strings students providing holiday music in our hallways. Mrs. Ellsworth and Mrs. Koch brought music to our hallways as both the strings and band students played holiday music for a short time in our hallways Monday and Tuesday mornings. It was a special treat for all of us and a memory the students will not soon forget.

Pictures: Soiree Singers from the High School Entertain Students on December 21st

Our students had another holiday treat as the high school Soiree Singers, under the direction of Mr. Mark Smith, performed for our students on Monday, December 21st. Bedford has an excellent vocal music and drama department and we were fortunate to be able to see what fine and talented students we have at our high school. Two of the Soiree Singers were former TRE students.
